IK Telegram – Reports from the countries 11/01

The last meeting of the International Coordination was held on 11.01.2022 at the NRW Mumble. We thought that our reports from the countries in telegram style should be noticed:

Austria

Main topic of public debate is the law on compulsory vaccination.

108,325 comments submitted on the parliament’s homepage and now sent to the Ministry of Health, the bill on compulsory vaccination is already a front-runner.

A low estimate for the cost of compulsory vaccination is put at roughly 150 million euros. (naturally a fact for the “inoculation critics”, which is water on polemic mills)

Anti-corruption referendum picks up steam.

The anti-corruption petition had been submitted in December. Even then, more than 80,000 people had signed it. It can thus be assumed that the initiative will reach the 100,000 signature mark, above which parliamentary consideration is mandatory.

Kurz’s new job. After all, he wanted “more time for his family,” which is why he wanted to leave politics.

As Kurz himself confirmed to Austrian media in the meantime, he will work for the US investment firm Thiel Capital as a “global strategist” from February 2022. Capital boss Peter Thiel is considered one of the most successful Internet investors in the world. Born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, but raised in the U.S., Thiel was a co-founder of PayPal and a Facebook investor. Politically, he is close to the Republicans. Thiel was an advisor to former U.S. President Donald Trump and gave speeches at party conventions.

Colombia, Northern South America, Central America

Nicaragua

27,105 new cases of Covid-19 Far dominant Omicron. 57 people have officially died from Covid-19. A steep increase. The country has a population of about 55,000,000, according to official estimates.

Ortega in Nicaragua has begun his 4th(!) term. Has the full support of Russia and China. (so much for Ukraine and “backyard”).

All opposition candidates are in jail or exile. New potential source of conflict “biggest cabin”.

Ortega has severed Nicaragua’s traditional ties with Taiwan, in favour of China’s “One China policy” etc.

Venezuela

Barinas State in Venezuela has a new and Anti-Chavista government after 24 years. A sign of an increasing tendency for a conservative turn (Garrido). Could be very exciting because despite massive corruption and intimidation, there was still a majority in it for the challenger.

Garrido was the leading candidate of the “Democratic Union”.

Chile

A week before the elections of the board to draft a new constitution, there is still wild wrangling over the composition of this board. The president, vice president and another 7 vice presidents of the different important social groups are elected. They are still not all clear. They’re bickering like tinkers.

Iceland

Dagur B. Eggertsson, mayor of Reykjavík, is running for re-election in May 2022 (coalition of Social-Democratic Alliance, Pirate Party, Left-Green Movement and Reform Party).

Otherwise Corona is the main topic.

Czech Republic

The Czech Pirates had their national party conference over the weekend. Ivan Bartoš was re-elected as president. All vice president positions have been filled. Marcel Kolaja, MEP and Vice President of the European Parliament, became the first Vice President. Hana Hajnová, a city councilor from the Vysočina region, was elected the second vice president, the third was elected by Blanka Charvátová, MP, and the last elected member of the Presidium is Martin Jiránek, an ex-parliamentarian, analyst and marketing specialist.

The term of office of the Vice-Presidents is two years, as for the President.
