IK Telegram – Reports from the countries 27/04

The last meeting of the International Coordination was held on 27/04/2021 at the NRW Mumble.

We thought that our reports from the countries in telegram style should be noticed:

Austria

Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP), who also chairs the Ibiza U Committee. On “Puls 24,” he rushed forward with a proposal to abolish the truth requirement in the committee. “In our country, every person who is a respondent has a tremendous fear of saying something false there, because they are under a duty to tell the truth there. In Germany, that doesn’t exist,” he said. “You can think of a lot of things there if you can find a consensus.”

On another front, the Ibiza U Committee has a decision coming up soon. The Constitutional Court will begin deliberations on Thursday regarding file deliveries from the Chancellor’s Office for the committee. The opposition had turned to the highest court: It wants to oblige Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) to submit more files and documents to the U-committee. The parties complain that they have not received a single e-mail or calendar entry from the chancellor. Kurz maintains that he has supplied all relevant files.

Whether Sobotka’s advance is now a diversionary manoeuvre from this Causa, only the National Council President himself knows, said Tomaselli. However, one is used to “diversionary manoeuvres and smoke grenades” from the ÖVP in the committee.

Turbo vaccination of Kurz again in the conversation. He promises once again:

By the end of April, 33 percent of those over 16 could be vaccinated, by the end of May 50 percent and by the end of June 75 percent.

“The vaccination turbo has started,” said Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) on Tuesday after a working meeting on the occasion of the early delivery of one million BioNTech/Pfizer doses. He added that they are on a “very, very good path” to vaccinate all those who want to by the end of June. “This is the way to normality.” Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) also expressed satisfaction.

USA

Former economic adviser to Trump Larry Kudlow: Biden’s climate policy warning:

“We will be forced to drink plant-based beer in the future…”

Colombia, Northern South America

730,462 migrants from Venezuela to Colombia in 2020 and 2021. Almost 20% of Venezuela’s population has emigrated in recent years!

Tax reform plans in Colombia due to insane government deficit. $94.6 billion new debt expected just in 2021 alone. Discussion started today in Congress.

Ecuador

Lenin Moreno, still president:

Ecuador: the central bank was privatized today. With the votes of all factions except the left. The IMF demanded it. This is to save the “dollarization”.

The idea of the left factions is an independence of the central bank in private hands. The government should no longer have direct access to government finances. Plus, the World Bank has made that a condition for further loans. Exciting.

Spain/Catalonia

Government formation in CAT is still in the works (according to legislation, Puigdemont’s party (Junts per Cat) and the ERC (center-left party) still have one month to agree – after that there would automatically be new elections (personal assessment: unlikely). Pirates are currently somewhat out of the picture, since we (i.e. the CUP – the third grouping that would be in the government) have already reached an agreement with the ERC).

Nationally, leaving Corona out of the equation, the dominant issue is next weekend’s elections for Madrid’s regional parliament.

UK and Scotland

All is quiet again, the pubs are (re)open. The B1.617 virus has arrived and is doubling daily.

Iceland

Assuming vaccination schedules go as planned, Icelandic authorities plan to lift all COVID-19-related restrictions by July 1.

Plans for stricter border measures were announced at the press conference, and Health Minister Svandís Svavarsdóttir will introduce a bill to that effect in Alþingi, the Icelandic parliament, today.

The proposed law would allow authorities to require travellers from high-risk COVID-19 areas to stay in a quarantine hotel. It would also allow authorities to ban nonessential travel to and from high-risk areas. These are defined as countries with a 14-day incidence per 100,000 population of more than 1,000.

Czech Republic:

Diplomatic crisis with Russia (intelligence operation is behind an explosives attack on CZ military facilities).

Government crisis – opposition wants no-confidence motion against the government, the pirates and STAN do not support it. But there are probably 60 signatures already.

Constitutional crisis – a new electoral law must be passed.

Pirates and STAN still consider dissolution of the Chamber of Deputies and early elections as the best way out of the current political situation. Vote of no confidence, in order to be successful, must be supported by an absolute majority of all MPs, i.e. at least 101. At least 120 deputies are needed to dissolve the House and hold early elections.
